The Buyers Guide To The Best Robot Vacuum For Carpets

When it comes to robot vacuums, there’s plenty of options, but not all of them are very good. Below is a guide to help you find the right features for your robot vacuum:

Smart Mapping

If you're looking for a robotic vacuum that can service multiple rooms, then this is the feature you need to look out for. It can intelligently pick up the floorplan of each room and the objects with it.

Scheduling

The thing I love about robotic vacuums is not having to think about the cleaning. Which is were schedules come in handy; you can set the vacuum to work while you go about your day.

Self-Emptying

This is where things start to get a little bit posher when the robot hoover is feeling a little bit full; it will go to the docking station to empty itself into a bin.

Suction Power

Suction power will vary from brand to model, but for the best clean, you need to look at the highest Pa rating. You should be looking for the very least 1,500 Pa to pick up a considerable amount dirt.

Auto-Charging

If you have a large house plan, then it's a good idea to find an auto-charging robot. There's nothing worse than coming home to your home half clean and the robot lying lifeless in the hallway.

App

Unfortunately, not all smart vacuums can be controlled with a smartphone app. This means to control the robot vacuum; you have to use manual buttons on the robotic hoover.

#1 – iRobot Roomba i7+

It’s the most advanced robotic vacuum on our list.

The i7+ uses smart mapping, which allows it to map and learn each room in the house to deliver the best cleaning experience.

Once the house is clean, the robot vacuum will return to base and empty the machine.

This means you can leave it for 60 days before you have to think about emptying the bin

This is down to the allergen lock bags, and there four layers of material.

The newer model of Roomba delivers 10x the suction power from the previous 600 series.

It uses a three-stage cleaning system to remove as many allergens from the rug as possible.

The i7+ Roomba uses imprint technology, which enables it to link up cleaning schedules with the Braava jet.. T

You can also use Alexa to prompt a cleaning schedule or get the Roomba to go to a specific room to clean.

Key Features

  • Schedule the cleaning room by room
  • Learns and adapts
  • Self-emptying
  • Imprint technology
  • Auto-charge
  • Allergen lock bags
  • Keep out zones

What Other People Say

They lived with a big dog and a couple of cats; they also had mixed hardwood and carpet throughout the house. The robot vacuum did an excellent job of cleaning the approximately 2,200 sq ft area. It was also a lot quieter than they had imagined, although that could not be said about the automatic-emptying.

Another customer had previously owned the Roomba 980 but was very unimpressed with the machine in the end. The i7+, on the other hand, was a different machine. It was quite that and mapped rooms a lot more efficiently. It was also great being able to schedule different places to clean on different days.

Final Verdict

It’s the most expensive option on the list, but for a good reason, it’s by far the most advanced. The self-emptying function is a delight, only made better by the fact it offers allergen protection. It was also highly efficient and very methodical with it’s cleaning patterns.

Another benefit for the extra cost was, it very rarely if ever get stuck, this is due to the adapt 3.0 and vSlam technology. It was also great being able to ask Amazon Alexa to clean your room in the morning and come back to the house clean.

What We Liked

  • Avoids obstacles
  • Smart maps rooms
  • Fits under some couches
  • Self empties

What We Didn’t Like

  • Price
  • Loud dirt disposal

#2 – GOOVI by ONSON Robot Vacuums

This is the newest addition of the GOOVI family, and it features the most powerful suction yet at 2,000Pa it full throttle.

This means it doesn’t miss a drop of dirt, add that to the low grade 2.81″ and it can help glide under hard to reach areas.

It uses an array of sensors to identify any obstacles it comes across effectively.

If it reaches edges, it can effectively climb a 12-15° lip in order transfer to the rug.

It also uses anti-drop technology, so you don’t have to worry about falling down the stairs.

Use boundary lines to make sure the car doesn’t go in rooms it’s not supposed to.

You don’t have access via a smartphone app; instead, you have to use remote control.

But you still have full access to things like scheduling, automatic charging, and so much more for you to get stuck into.

Key Features

  • Fits under low furniture
  • Spot clean mode
  • 2000 Pa suction power
  • Remote control
  • 1-Year warranty
  • Boundry lines
  • 15° incline
  • Auto-charging

What Other People Say

They brought it for their parent’s house; they were pretty old, which made it hard for them to clean up. They set it to clean once a day, and they noticed an extreme difference. All the dog hair was picked up, and it always ended up back at home base.

They also loved it could fit in the hard to reach areas and made light work of lifting heavy dirt. Other people said it was just amazing; they were skeptical at first due to there being no WiFi connection. Luckily the remote had all the settings you needed, including scheduling.

Final Verdict

If you don’t care about WiFi technology, then you might just save yourself a little bit of cash. It still provides all the features like smart scheduling; it just can’t be controlled with voice commands or remotely. But, it does have 2,000 Pa, which is extremely strong.

The low price did mean you lost out on smart mapping, which meant it wasn’t quite as intelligent and quite often bumped into things. One thing I noticed from the comments was it always ended up making it back home to charge.

What We Liked

  • Easy to setup
  • Multiple cleaning modes
  • Collision detection
  • Can be easily scheduled

What We Didn’t Like

  • Small bin

Overall it a very nice piece of kit and we can understand why people are so happy with it. If you’re looking for a powerful vacuum with all the smart features for a low price, then look no further. The only thing it’s missing is the self-emptying feature.

What Other People Say

They were extremely impressed with this robot vacuum. It worked wonders cleaning the dog hair from the carpet and hardwood flooring. They loved how well it transitioned from carpet to hardwood it looked seamless, It did need a little bit of babysitting at times, but it was great walking into a new room.

Most people had good things to say about these robot vacuums, they did a great job of cleaning the floor, and it didn’t struggle on the carpet. But one repeat problem was it struggled to make its way back to the charging station after a clean, which was disappointing.

Final Verdict

It works very well, and when you consider how low the price is, it makes it quite a good deal. When transitioning between carpet and hardwood flooring, it performed exceptionally well. It picked up dog and cat hair easily with powerful suction abilities.

It also increased and decreased the amount of suction power, depending on what was required. But, it did have one major flaw, the robot vacuum struggled to make it way back to the charging base, which meant you’d have to go and find it.

What We Liked

  • Easy to set up
  • Picked up dog hair well
  • Runs quietly

What We Didn’t Like

  • Small dust bin
  • Struggles to make back to base

#5 – Shark IQ Robot Vacuum

The Shark IQ is like a budget Roomba i7+, which is great if you’re on a budget. It captures all your dirt and will self-empty itself when the device is full

It will then hold the dirt in a self-contained compartment for up to 30-days.

This particular model of shark is the most powerful in their range.

You can use the free to download smartphone app to control the vacuum and set cleaning schedules for your device to follow.

Or by linking the robot vacuum to Alexa or Google Assistant, you can use voice commands to get the cleaning started with ease.

Once it’s finished, the self-cleaning brush roll will remove any unwanted pet hair.

Once the Robot vacuum has fully charged itself, it will return to cleaning from where it left off.

Shark IQ uses total home mapping, so it knows where it is in the house at all times.

This also helps you create more complex schedules with individual rooms or the whole house, it really is up to you.

Key Features

  • Smart mapping
  • Works with Alexa and Google
  • Self-emptying
  • Lasts 30-days without emptying
  • Self -cleaning brush roll
  • Picks up where it left off
  • Powerful suction
  • Great App

What Other People Say

One customer was delighted with his decision to purchase the Shark IQ over the Roomba i7. It did a great job of cleaning and mapping out the house. It had no problems cleaning matt flooring or carpet, which made them feel it was pretty good for the price.

The majority of the customers said the suction power was great, and when the floor needed a little bit more attention, it would increase the power. The self-emptying system worked very well, as did the mapping system. Overall most people were delighted.

Final Verdict

If you haven’t quite got the budget for the i7 Roomba, then this could be an excellent solution for you. It provides all the same features just at $200 cheaper. That being said, by the sounds of it, it’s not quite as intelligent as the i7; it usually gets stuck or is generally clumsy.

It did a great job of picking up pet hair, but it still left you with a little bit of maintenance. The self-emptying feature worked well and meant you only had to empty the bin every 30 days unless there was more dirt than usual. And finally, the compatibility with Google Assistant was the icing on the cake; it finished the machine off nicely.

What We Liked

  • Easy to schedule
  • Great battery life
  • Large dustbin

What We Didn’t Like

  • Very loud on hardwood
  • Dodgy app

But This Is The Best Robot Vacuum For Carpet

For me, the best robotic vacuum for carpets is the i7+. It doesn’t quite have the suction power of the iRobot Roomba S9, but the price is a lot lower.

And here’s the thing:

It pretty much has all the same features for around $500 cheaper than the Roomba S9+.

The smart mapping technology is what sets this robotic vacuum apart from the others.

Roomba i7+

You can set a schedule for the robotic vacuum to clean individual rooms throughout your home. And when the battery runs low, it always makes it back to its home base to charge, for there it will pick up where it left off and finish the job.

If you have any questions about robot vacuums, feel free to leave a comment below, and I’ll get back to you. But, in the meantime, why not check out what the best Roomba for pet hair is?

Frequently Asked Questions

It depends on what brand of robot vacuum cleaner you go for; there have been some vacuums, not to name names have been pretty terrible at cleaning carpets. But there are some good robot vacuums out there, like the ones you can see above.

The best is probably the Roomba S9; it provides the best suction power with the smartest technology. The problem is cleaning your thick carpet with this machine comes at a large price.
