You might be aware that the Google Nest program is discontinuing third-party integrations. But what does this mean for the future of Ring and Google? To find out were answering the, does Ring Work with Google Home?

Does Ring Work With Google Home

Does Ring Doorbell Work With Google Home?

The Short Answer is yes. But, here’s the thing, for two devices to truly work together, they need to have that in mind while it’s getting designed.

The problem is:

Amazons Ring and Google compete with each other, and Google haven’t gone out of their way to becoming more compatible with other devices.

This means the number of functions you can use is minimal. Luckily for Ring users, the two devices are compatible.

But, as I said, the functionality can be limited.

I guess the next question is:

What Ring Doorbell functions can you use with Google home?

There are several functions you can get stuck into, including turning motion alerts on and off to rinding out the battery status. Other functions include:

  • Turning Ring alerts on and off
  • Find out who last rang the Ring Doorbell
  • Tell Ring to Stary recording
  • Chromecast the stream (more on this later)

As you can see, there are a few functions for you to try, But how do you control your Ring Doorbell with Google Home?

List Of Commands

To help you get started, I’m going to list a few of the most common commands Google Home uses to control your Nest products:

  • "Hey Google, turn motion alerts "
  • "Hey Google, Secure home."
  • "Hey Google, Start recording video "
  • "Hey Google, Start recording video "
  • "Hey Google, What's the health of my doorbell?"

Like I said, functionality between Google Home and Ring is very limited, so there’s not a vast amount of commands you can take advantage of. But, the commands you can use work very well at controlling your smart home.

How Do I Connect My Ring Doorbell To Google Home?

In this section, I’m going to explain how you connect your Ring Doorbell to your Google Home hub.

The whole process is straightforward and only takes a couple of minutes. But, before you start, you need to make sure you have three apps installed on your phone:

  1. Google Home: iOS or Android
  2. Google Assistant: iOS or Android
  3. Ring App: iOS or Android

Once all the accounts are set up, you’re ready to set up the doorbell with Google Assistant. To do that, all you have to do is follow these very easy steps:

  • Open the Google Home App
  • Tap the + Icon at the top left corner of the screen
  • Tap Set Up New Device > Have Something Already Set Up
  • Choose the Correct Device
  • Follow the instructions provided
  • Allow Google to take control of the device
  • Tap Allow then tap Done

As I said, the process doesn’t take that long at all, but if you’re looking to speed it up, and you still have the box for your Ring device, then you have a second option. By scanning the QR code Google Home will be able to automatically connect to your Ring Doorbell.

How To Add Additional Users To Your Ring Doorbell

Now, you might not be finished yet, if you want multiple users to have access to your Ring Doorbell, then you need to share the access with them. This will allow your spouse, kids, and roommates to check live stream videos when the doorbell rings.

The process goes like this:

  • Open The Ring App
  • Tap Menu > Settings
  • Tap the + Icon at the top right of the screen
  • Add their Personal Email
  • Tap Assign Role
  • Select from Owner, Shared User or Guest User
  • Tap Send Invite

From that point on, anyone added to the devices will be able to control the doorbell in the way they deem fit. The process doesn’t take long, but it is necessary if you want additional users on the list.

You might have noticed earlier in the article I mentioned you have the ability to stream your Doorbell footage using Chromecast devices and Google Assistant. Well, now’s the time to show you how this works.

How To Link Ring Doorbell To Your TV Using Google Home

Being able to link your doorbell footage to your TV is one of the best parts of the smart home device.

But, before you get started, there’s a few things you need to complete. Firstly you need a Chromecast TV or at least a Chromecast device.

Secondly, you need to make sure you’ve followed the steps above and ensure Google Home is connected to your smart doorbell.

And Finally, make sure your smartphone and Google Home Hub are both connected to the same WiFi connection.

  • The first thing you need to do is open the Google Home App
  • Tap on the + symbol at the top of the screen
  • From there tap Set Up Device > Set Up New Device
  • Select the Home Name and tap Next
  • A code will pop up on your TV and Mobile match the codes and tap Yes, I’m In
  • Click on the Room Name you want to set up the device with
  • Select the WiFi Network
  • Click Next
  • Select The Video service you want to add
  • Click Continue

Hopefully, that didn’t cause you too much bother trying to get the devices connected. The whole process is pretty simple, so I’m sure you had no problems.

But, here’s the best bit:

Now you enjoy all the best features from your smart home doorbell. You can watch your Ring Doorbells and Certain security cameras from your TV.

Google Assistant Commands For Ring Video Commands

To cast the security footage to your TV, there are a few Google Assistant commands you should learn they range from stopping the stream to choosing which cameras you want to view:

  • "Hey Google, What's on (Name of doorbell)"
  • "Hey Google, Show the (Doorbell Name)"
  • "Hey Google, Stop." This will stop the stream
  • "Hey Google, Show the (Name of doorbell) on (Chromecast Name or TV with Chromecast)"

Final Thoughts

So yes, some Ring devices do work with Google, but the list of devices is minimal. You can stream Ring video by combining your Chromecast devices with your Ring Doorbell. Specific Ring security cameras can also be controlled with google home, but this is usually when combined with a Z-Wave Hub.

In the end, it’s doubtful that we’ll see Google and Ring working together wholly. Neither company can let go of their beef. If anything, I accept the list to get smaller over time. But hey, we just have to wait and see.
