#1 – Honeywell T6 Lyric Overview

The Honeywell Lyric thermostat comes in a standard cube shape and has the dimensions 4″ x 4″ x1.09″, so it has an inch difference compared to its previous model.

The outside of the frame is made with white plastic with a glossy finish and a touchscreen display.

The Honeywell Lyric T6 can be controlled using the mobile app and a Wi-Fi, the touchscreen display, and serval voice assistants.

This includes the likes of Apple HomeKit, Alexa, and Google Home.

Another nice feature was the being able to link up with IFTTT to create temperature based recipes.

The thermostat uses a 7-day scheduling system, which allows you to set multiple functions per day.

This is great if you live in an area of fluctuating temperatures.

This means you can set different temperature settings for different times of the day. All schedules can be quickly overwritten using the app.

  • Works with multiple voice assistants
  • 7-day programmable
  • Two-year warranty

What Other People Say

It only took them a couple of minutes to set up and install their new Honeywell Lyric thermostat, but this could have been because they had just upgraded from the T4 model. It was a simple case of switching some wires around and programming their new schedule in.

Another person didn’t think the geofencing ability worked as well as it should have. It was quite often slow to respond or didn’t take any action at all. Other than that, the scheduling feature worked fantastically, and it was super easy to install the thermostat.

Final Verdict

I enjoyed using the Honeywell T6, even if it didn’t come with its main competitor’s learning ability. The Honeywell thermostat was super easy to schedule using the touchscreen or through the app. The app was very nicely laid out and made navigating its features very easy.

I was also pleasantly surprised by how much savings it knocked off the energy bill, it easily matched the Nest thermostat, but I did have to play around with the setting a lot more. Finally, the thermostat keeps to the Honeywell tradition of being one of the easiest to install.

What We Liked

  • Easy to setup
  • Eay to use
  • Works with Apple HomeKit

Breaking It Down

I want you to leave this article feeling like you know everything there is to know about the Honeywell Lyric T6, which is why we’re going to break it down into sections to make it more digestible.

Keep reading to find out precisely what the Honeywell T6 is about:

Design

The design of the Honeywell Lyric T6 remains relatively straightforward with its traditional cuboid shape, which has the dimensions of 4 x 4 x 1.1 inches. This makes the thermostat small enough where it doesn’t take up to much room, but it’s still big enough to control easily.

The touch screen display and the plastic casing gave the thermostat a nice finish, but it still doesn’t stand up to the likes of Nest or ecobee.

Its touchscreen display keeps you up to date with the current temperature, the time, and a few other vital details. But the best thing is it displays the information in a large font making it very easy to read.

Installation

As with all Honeywell thermostats, the Lyric T6 sticks with its easy to install nature. The thermostat needs to be connected with power, and a second box needs installing to the boiler. This can be done by yourself or with the help of a professional.

Installation only takes around 30 minutes as long as you don’t run into any issues. You have two chooses for mounting your thermostat.

You can either place it on the wall or use the stand to put it on a shelf or table. This brings a little bit of versatility to the thermostat.

If you choose to use the stand, you won’t need to wire it into the power. Instead, you can use just the external power adapter.

Once everything is installed, you can connect the Honeywell T6 to your wi-fi; this can be configured using your smartphone app.

The configuration should only take around 10-minutes, this means you should be able to get everything up and running within 40 minutes.

Geofencing

Before I explain how it works, you first need to understand what it is. Geofencing is a virtual perimeter you can set around your home in a real-world setting.

The idea is to set a perimeter around your house where if you cross over the line, the thermostat will either start-up or turn off.

You can set the geofence radius using the Honeywell app; this means you don’t have to use an automatic range. The smartphone app will keep track of your location and feed the information to the thermostat when it needs it.

Scheduling

The Honeywell Lyric T6 allows you to set schedules for your heating and cooling based on your life. It features things like Full Schedule Mode to set different temperatures for different times of the day.

This could mean things like waking up to a warm house and going to bed with a cooler setting. The choice really is down to you.

When you’re in full schedule mode, your Geofencing settings won’t work, so it’s something to think about.

Luckily they also other a few more scheduling options for you:

Home, Away, and Sleep – This mode should be pretty self-explanatory, but if it’s not, let me explain: It lets you set temperatures from when you’re home, away, or asleep. The settings can be configured using the app and use geofencing to determine your location.

Holiday Mode – Holiday mode lets you ultimately turn off your heating and cooling system for the duration of your trip. This ensures no energy gets wasted while you’re away from home.

Whatever type of schedule you prefer using, the thermostat will use it’s Optimized Start feature. This makes sure your thermostat always uses the most energy-efficient way of heating or cooling your home.

Compatibility

You shouldn’t have too much trouble when it comes to compatibility with the thermostat. It works with both combination and system boiler types.

The one condition is your boiler must be able to receive on and off signals.

The Lyric T6 is also available with many voice assistants, including Apple HomeKit, Alexa, and Google Assistant. Again this means you don’t have to worry too much about how it fill it in with your home.

Lastly, the Honeywell Lyric T6 is compatible with Samsung SmartThings. This lets you set up the thermostat with your smart home. In other words, it makes it even more compatible with other devices.

To finish it off, the Lyric T6 can also be used with IFTTT, which means you can incorporate it into recipes.

Controls

The Honeywell Lyric T6 comes with three control methods; The first one is through the main interface. The touchscreen pad allows you to navigate around the features easily.

Another option is to use the Lyric app; this offers a more convenient method of controlling your thermostat. The Lyric app allows you to manage your device from anywhere in the world.

The final method is using voice control, but the amount of control you get is limited slightly, but it can still turn the temperature up and down or shut everything off altogether.

Price

Honeywell has also offered a very competitive price for smart thermostats. And it’s no different with the Honeywell Lyric T6 smart thermostat.

The T6 Smart thermostat comes in at around $150, which is cheaper than most of its competitors. Overall it’s definitely worth the price.

Honeywell Lyric T6 Review: The Final Verdict

The Lyric T6 brings excellent heating and cooling abilities at a fantastic price. Considering the low price, it was highly responsive and very energy efficient.

It was also great at scheduling, the whole process was super easy, and it always stuck to the routine; you could rest assured the temperature of your home is perfect.

The downside with the scheduling was you didn’t have control of the geofencing with some settings, which was a shame, but not a deal-breaker.

Honeywell Lyric T6 Thermostat

Other than that, everything was excellent, and I would definitely recommend this energy-saving device.
