#1 – Honeywell Lyric T5

The Honeywell T5 works to a predetermined seven-day schedule. The schedule can be changed at any time using the Lyric app.

Using the application also opens up geofencing possibilities for location-based temperature control.

This feature allows the thermostat to keep track of your location for auto temperature control.

The smart thermostat requires a C-wire for installation, making it a little trickier to install if you don’t have it.

Honeywell’s T5 Wi-Fi thermostat uses adaptive recovery; it learns how long it takes to reach specific temperatures, so it’s ready at the right time.

The Lyric T5 Wi-Fi thermostat is compatible with most single and multi-stage HVAC systems, heat pumps, and cooling systems.

That being said, it’s worth checking the compatibility before purchasing the unit. They manufacture also supplies a 1-year warranty for any faulty products.

Key Features

  • 7-Day flexible scheduling
  • Location-based Temperature control
  • Energy Star Certified
  • 1-Year warranty
  • Touchscreen display
  • Two colors

What Other People Say

So far, they had purchased and installed two of the units; installing the first thermostat was easy because they had a pre-existing c-wire. The second unit wasn’t so easy, it didn’t have a c-wire, and although it was easy to install the wire, they had troubles with the configuration.

Another customer had a few troubles with Nest, so they decided to switch over. They didn’t find the set up very easy at all and had to call a tech in. Since then, everything has been working smoothly; overall, they were very pleased they made the switch.

Final Verdict

The Lyric T5 offers a cheaper option than its direct competitor Nest, but it also doesn’t have the technical abilities. The app is excellent to use and makes it very easy to control the T5 Wi-Fi thermostat. It’s also seen some improvements with its geofencing capabilities.

The Lyric T5 Is super easy to install and set-up, making it a top choice for novices in the market. It was also effortless to control the schedules, make adjustments, or add people to the app. Overall this is a fantastic energy-saving device.

Honeywell Lyric T5+

The Honeywell Lyric T5+ comes with an optional power adapter included, which can be used to replace the C-wire.

It gives a low voltage alternative that’s easy to install and discreet.

The T5 + design is nearly identical, except it’s slightly larger and has a dark grey color instead of silver.

This can also be set with a 7-day flexible schedule so that you can control the temperature at different times of the day

One of the most significant differences with this thermostat is being able to connect to Google Home and the previous voice assistants.

This model has improved its geofencing abilities to control your heating better while you’re away.

If you’re away, the Lyric app will send you a notification to your phone explaining the problem. This lets you put plans into before the worst happens.

Key Features

  • Smart response
  • Works with Apple, Amazon, and Google
  • Auto adapting scheduling
  • Smart notifications
  • 7-day flexible scheduling
  • Works without C-wire

What Other People Say

They already had a C-wire connected to their existing thermostat, which made setting up the T5 + really easy. The customer also found using the application made everything very straight forward. They loved not having to move to make the adjustments.

Another customer received a $50 utility rebate for each of the thermostats they brought, making the thermostat even cheaper. They have two sets up in different houses, with a c-wire and without, they found both to be pretty easy to set up.

Final Verdict

Although the T5+ is essentially the same machine as the original model, it also has a few subtle differences that make this device unique. Firstly you can set this version up without a c-wire, which made setting up these thermostats a lot easier.

The other big difference was using Google Home with the thermostats; the previous model didn’t have this capability. It was also great to see Honeywell improve their geofencing abilities; previously, it was a little bit lacking.

What We Liked

  • Geofencing worked well
  • Google Home control
  • Auto-switching
  • Works with Google Home

What We Didn’t Like

  • A little more expensive

Things They Have In Common

The two Wi-Fi thermostats have more in common they do differences. Both are hardwired and don’t have a battery backup in case of emergencies.

Another thing they both share is how easy they are to set up. Some people have a few troubles, but the majority of people have it running within the hour.

They also use the Lyric app to control the thermostat, which has a simple design and nicely laid out buttons.

Head To Head: Honeywell T5 Vs T5+

My favorite part of Vs articles is putting both the devices head to head; it’s the only way of knowing which product will work best for you.

Unfortunately, these thermostats didn’t have many differences, but there were a few; let’s check ’em out:

Design

The T5+ has a slightly larger design, and when I say slightly, I mean barely. Overall it had an extra 0.1 inches on each side.

It also had slightly different colors; the original was Black and Silver, while the upgraded version used Black and Dark Grey.

The most significant difference was the introduction of Google Assistant; it gave more options and made it more versatile in smart homes.

Winner: Honeywell T5+

Installation

The only difference here is that the T5+ doesn’t require a C-Wire to set up the thermostat, making it more favorable to people.

Winner: Honeywell T5+

Final Verdict

As mentioned throughout this article, there isn’t much difference between the two units.

The T5+ comes with a slightly higher price, but it also has the addition of Google Home. If Google powers your smart home, it’s something worth considering.

It was also great to have the option of not installing the C-wire; it was a significant game-changer for many users.

In my opinion, the T5+ is the more superior thermostat, but only just and would mainly come down to personal preferences.
