The Honeywell smart thermostat requires a C-Wire and Wi-Fi network to work.
This can make the setup slightly tricky, so don’t be afraid to call in a professional.
Once everything is set up, the smart thermostat can be controlled with Alexa or Siri, depending on your set up.
Honeywell Lyric T5 works with seven-day flexible scheduling, which can be controlled using the mobile app.
And that’s not the only feature the app offers. You can also use the Geo-location service; it lets the thermostat keep track of your location to get the heating ready for you.
One of the best features is the Adaptive Recovery; it lets the thermostat learn how long it takes to reach the desired temperature.
It will then start up automatically, so it reaches the right temperature when you need it.
It also comes with an energy star rating, so it runs for less money without you having to think about a thing.
Key Features
- Works with Alexa & Homekit
- Auto adapts
- 7-day scheduling
- Geofencing
- Energy-star certified
- Sends mobile alerts
What Other People Say
The installation was super easy to connect to the Wi-Fi, and the price was great too. They loved how they could program various temperatures throughout the day. But the best bit was being able to control the thermostat using Wi-Fi; it was great getting home to perfect temperature.
They were pretty nervous about setting it up after previous experiences, but this was different; it was super easy. They did struggle with the geofencing abilities, but they put that down to their inadequate mobile coverage. Overall they found it a very beneficial smart device.
Final Verdict
After the first couple of years, the T5 Wi-Fi thermostat will pay for itself; after that, it’s pure savings. The energy-saving abilities will dramatically reduce your energy bills. Installation was ok, but if you don’t have a C-wire already installed, you should probably call a professional.
The app interface was super easy to use; this made scheduling and controlling the thermostat simple. Considering how cheap the Honeywell lyric T5 is, it’s incredibly efficient. Overall this a great device with plenty of functions for you to check out.

The Honeywell Lyric T6 has the same square design as the Lyric T5 but is about an inch bigger in all directions.
The Lyric T6 Pro also works with all major voice assistance once a Wi-Fi connection is established.
With the voice controls, you can increase/decrease the temperature or set a time for the heating to turn off.
Another way to control the device is through the app; this lets you use features like geofencing, 7-day scheduling, and remote control.
The Honeywell T6 Pro allows us to set multiple time configurations for one day, which means you can wake up nice and toasty and go to bed cozy.
The touchscreen display is 6.89 square inches, so the interface feels less cluttered than previous versions.
The responsive screen displays the temperature but also helps you make adjustments quickly.
They also claim to work with almost any HVAC system, but it’s best to check compatibility beforehand.

What Other People Say
It didn’t take them long to get the thermostats up and running. This was because they upgraded from the T4, so all the wiring was the same. Programing the Lyric T6 was super easy and could be done using their mobile phone and a Wi-Fi connection.
One thing that got mentioned a couple of times was the poor geofencing; they just couldn’t get it to work as they wanted. But overall, people were pretty happy with the thermostats. They worked well and saved them money; it was just a shame about the geofencing.
Final Verdict
If you’re looking to reduce your energy bill, this thermostat can help. More importantly, it doesn’t make things too complicated. The app is easy to use and makes scheduling and controlling the thermostat more manageable.
These thermostats aren’t the easiest to set up, and it’s not the smartest thermostat out there, which puts some people off. But overall, it does perform very well, and at a fraction of the cost of some of its competitors. For me, the energy-saving features alone make this Wi-Fi thermostat worth the money.
What We Liked
- Compact
- Saves money
- 7-day scheduling
- Touchscreen display
What We Didn’t Like
- Problems with geofencing

Things They Have In Common
At first glance, you might not be able to tell the difference between the two thermostats; they both have the same design other than the color.
The two Thermostats share Geofencing abilities so they can heat your home up based on your location.
It will also turn the system off if you go out of the house.
They also both connect with the major voice assistants and use an app to control the thermostats. They will also send you messages about the health of the system, and much more.
Head To Head: Honeywell Lyric T5 Vs T6
To understand which of the Honeywell thermostats will take the crown, we need to break them both down. To make this easier, I’ve broken this Honeywell lyric T5 vs T6 battle into rounds; check it out:
Design
When comparing the design of the Lyric T5 vs Lyric T6, both thermostats are pretty similar. They both use the same square shape with rounded edges, which brings a stylish feel to the Wi-Fi thermostat.
The most significant difference you’ll notice with the design is the color, the Lyric T5 comes in black while the Lyric T6 comes in white. The other key difference is the size, the Lyric T5 model is slightly smaller than the Lyric T6, but it’s always lighter.
Other then this, you won’t see much difference, which is why I’m going to call this one a tie.
Winner: Tie
Installation
The installation of the two devices works in very different ways. The Lyric T5 focuses on being DIY friendly, which is confirmed with all the installation videos online. The Lyric T6, on the other hand, is a little harder to set up.
Most people preferred to get a professional to install the Wi-Fi thermostat and those who didn’t wish they did.
One thing they both have in common is they both need to use C-wire to complete the installation. But because the Lyric T5 is a lot easier to install, I’m giving it this round.
Winner: Honeywell Lyric T5
Ventilation
Another big difference between the two thermostats is how they handle ventilation. The T5 doesn’t support U terminals (Universal Relay) for any ventilation, but it does support passive vents.
But when we look at the Honeywell T6 Pro, we can see it’s a little more advanced. The T6 can use HRV (Heat Recovery Ventilator)/ERV (Energy Recovery Ventilator), and a fresh air damper.
Because the T6 offers more installations options, we have to give it this round.
Winner: Honeywell Lyric T6
Duel Fuel
Dual fuel thermostats are used to connect a heat pump with the furnace to make the system more efficient. The only thermostat to offer this feature is the Lyric T6.
Configuring the HVAC system can be pretty tricky, and selecting the wrong configuration can damage your system. The best option is to call out a professional to get it installed.
Winner: Honeywell Lyric T6
Price
When we compare the prices of the two Wi-Fi thermostats, there isn’t much difference, depending on which retailers you use.
On average, the Lyric T6 is around $40-$50 cheaper than the T5, but it also offers more compatibility and more fancy features; for this reason, the Honeywell T6 Pro wins.
Winner: Honeywell Lyric T6
Final Verdict: Lyric T5 Vs T6
As you can see above, the two devices are pretty similar; they just have a few key differences that separate them. And this is were the Honeywell Pro T6 comes and takes the crown.
The thermostat is a little bit cheaper and a lot harder to install, but in the end, it’s all worth it.
You see, it others more compatibility with an HVAC system and more ventilation options.
I also felt that the touchscreen screen was more responsive and felt less cluttered than the Lyric T5.
All this being said, if you’re on a budget or don’t want a dual system, the Lyric T5 will do an excellent job.
