The Buyers Guide To The Best Smart Garage Door Openers
Before you purchase anything, you need to know exactly what to look for. It gives you a great idea of what to expect from your purchase and what you require from it:
App Control
It's probably the main reason people make a switch to a smart garage door opener. App control allows you to see whos left and whos entered through the garage, as well as set schedules and more.
Voice Control
It might not be necessary for everyone, but it's undoubtedly an essential feature for a lot of people. By using a garage door opener with voice control, you access your garage without using your hands.
Access Sharing
If you live with more than one person or you have friends and family that stay at your home regularly. Then having shared access is a must; it will stop you from having to open the garage door.
Connection
As you'll find out, not all garage door openers use a WiFi connection to open or close the door. And for this reason, it's imperative you check out how the device connects to your phone.
Notifications
If anything unexpected happens, it's nice to know, right? Well, with some garage door openers, you get just that. You'll receive a notification to your phone and, in some cases, video footage.
Key By Amazon
Unfortunately, Amazon delivery thefts are on the rise, and it's causing nightmares for so many users. Amazon Key allows the driver temporary access to your garage while they deliver the parcel.

#5 – GarageMate
Amazon.com | out of stock | Buy Now |
Instead of using a WiFi connection GarageMate has opted to go for Bluetooth 4.0 to connect your smart device to your garage door opener.
This was was down to the company feeling it made it easier to set up and more secure than using a WiFi signal.
They’re compatible with a good majority of garage door openers, but for peace of mind, it’s best to check on their website.
It only takes a couple of minutes to install the device, but once installed, you’ll be granted access to a whole range of smart features.
Unfortunately, there are no voice commands available on this model, but you can use Siri and Google Assistant to open the App.
The App gives you access to your history log, and from there, yóu can see who opened the door and when. You can allow up to eight users access to your garage at any one time. You never have to worry that the garage door opener will run out of batteries, it’s hard-wired.

What Other People Say
They really enjoyed the product; it was super easy to install and worked excellently. The instructions were self-explanatory to follow. They did want to mention the lack of opening range due to the Bluetooth connection. They also noticed the range varied depending on if the door was open or closed.
Other customers also felt the GarageMate lived up to all expectations. The installation was quick and simple; you just had to screw in two wires and plug the device in. The App could open and close the garage door quickly and efficiently; it responded with a 1-2 second lag.
Final Verdict
The garage door opener is ok, but it lacks a few features, which I feel for the price they should have had it covered. This means you’re left with a “smart” garage door opener that can’t perform voice commands or work with an internet connection.
Due to the garage door opener using a WiFi connection, there’s no way of checking the status of your door. On the plus side, it was straightforward to install, and you never have to worry about the battery dying, but this still doesn’t make up for the fact that’s it’s overpriced for what you get.
What We Liked
- Nicely priced
- Very easy to install
- Bluetooth
What We Didn’t Like
- Doesn't work with WiFi
- No way of checking the door status
- No voice assistants
But This Is The Best Smart Garage Door Opener
For me, the best garage door opener has to be the Chamberlain Group myQ garage door; for the meager price, it really does provide high-quality performance.
And to make it better, it’s compatible with Alexa, Google Assistant, and Siri.
You could also add security cameras to the system for an extra cost, and this opens up even more capabilities, like Amazon Key.
You’ll never have to worry about missing a delivery again, just open the door remotely and watch them leave the parcel before you close your garage door.
You never have to worry if the door is open or closed again, you can set schedules and timers using the App. The myQ App will send you notifications to your phone if there’s a problem. My biggest problem with myQ is the safety alarm; it can become incredibly annoying if you have people come home late.
